about us

the story behind urbanlip.com
by
Lara Philpott – founder/managing director

Having spent 15 years in the communications industry, agency side, specializing in health, beauty and fashion - two children later I knew it was time for a change of direction. Whilst thoroughly enjoying a brief stint of being full time mum, the proposition of getting me back into the work saddle needed to be an exciting one.

So when I was approached with the idea of launching our own specialist health and beauty image library, as believe it or not, there wasn’t one at the time, I was intrigued. Iain Philpott, co-founder and creative director of urbanlip.com, had been pursued, over the years, by the big libraries for his archive and I had been on the client side struggling to find beautiful health & beauty images available to license, so together we felt there was a niche to be filled.

After much market research, business plan writing and pitching for funding, urbanlip.com was born. The mission was to become the first port of call for health, beauty and wellness images worldwide and after a decade, licensing images and creating content for use around the world, we are holding true to that original ambition.

Imaging over the last decade has evolved beyond all recognition ….. and the team at urbanlip.com has changed too. We’ve gone beyond being a high production value stills photo library whilst keeping our specialism in health, beauty and wellness. We produce bespoke content for clients on location or in the studio, we shoot 4K motion on all urbanlip’s in-house productions (available to license), we produce content specifically for social media and we have post production facilities for clients to tap into. It’s exciting times.

Quality is at the heart of everything we create, from the models we choose to the locations we use. Our ‘available to license’ image collections are originated with the same integrity as a commissioned shoot – bucking the trend of the current ‘pile it high, sell it cheap’ stock philosophy.

We love to collaborate, whether we’re involved in a stand alone project or as a visually creative extension to your department or agency, get us involved in the creative process …. as early as possible and I promise we will bring something great to the party.

What we do is a way of life, not really a job and we thoroughly enjoy it. It feels good …. and we create content which looks good, too!
